From gatorade to kid’s online safety: Mommy bloggers know best

I have had a crazy, but exciting few weeks.  And learned a lot! A few weeks ago, I attended the Mom 2.0 Summit in Houston. It was a conference for mommy bloggers to meet (in person) and for companies that wish to market to moms to meet us. I was pleasantly surprised that more and more companies are realizing that Mom’s control 83% of the spending in American households (according to Lisa Stone of Blogher.com) – something I could have told them a long time ago! Really, they should have asked!

One of the featured panelists Holly Buchanon told a story about how she told a company that she loved their product. They responded by saying that moms did not buy their product. She responded by saying “Did the Gatorade walk into my house???” I completely agree with Holly. I may not use kid’s sports equipment, but I certainly make decisions often about which ones to buy and how much to spend monthly. I don’t listen to the White Stripes on a regular basis, but I have purchased their music.  I may not use gaming consoles regularly, but I certainly make decisions about which online and other games come into my house. Then I will take the time to play the games with my children to understand what they are really doing on them.  (continue reading...)
