Spam made up 88.32% of all email messages in June, compared with 89.81% in May. Are spammers trying to make up for the loss of several zombie networks due to legal actions? The answer is yes, because June 2010 was definitely a “month of malware spam” with the delivery of malware being at the forefront of the spam landscape. So far in 2010, Symantec had not observed malware levels above 3% of all spam, even on days when malware spam spiked. However, malware spam made up almost 12% of all spam on June 13, and topped 5% on June 3 and 15. The “June 2010: Spam Subject Line Analysis” section of this month’s State of Spam & Phishing Report provides additional details on this type of malware spam.
