Hot Celebrity Searches Lead To Hidden Dangers

Searching online for celebrity news, pictures and downloads can turn up pornography, malicious software and phishing sites, McAfee warns
Perhaps you saw the latest Cameron Diaz movie and decided to search online for photos and screensavers of the actress. What you may have not known is that Cameron Diaz is currently the Most Dangerous Celebrity, according to the latest McAfee research, giving you a one in ten chance of landing on a risky site if you search for her using certain keywords.
For example, if you click on a link to a “gallery of cool Cameron pics,” you could end up being redirected to a pornography website, or a phishing site that asks for your credit card number and personal information.
McAfee used its SiteAdvisor® technology to determine the most dangerous celebrities on the web by searching for celebrity names plus search terms, such as “wallpaper,” “photos,” and “ringtones.” And this year, like in previous years, McAfee found a wealth of malware and questionable content associated with celebrity searches.
That’s because, like many consumers, cybercriminals know which celebrities and topics are popular and trending, and they use this information to lure you into clicking on dangerous links or downloads, where they can hide password (continue reading...)
